3D MODELING OF EMD & GE COUPLER POCKETS
|
I still have to draw the type 1 EMD coupler pocket and the GE coupler pocket. What you see here are what I call
the EMD TYPE 2 and the EMD TYPE 3 coupler pockets. I am still in the design stage and want to try and
incorporate the coupler draft gear box or at least part of it. These are drawn full scale so that I can scale them
to any size for rapid prototyping. Also what I am thinking of doing is making two versions of each type. One for a
scale coupler box and the other to slip a Kadee coupler box into.
Remember though. It is always best to check your prototype for what type ti use.
This is what I call a EMD TYPE 2 coupler pocket. I have seen it on the GP9, GP18, GP20, GP30, GP/SD35,
GP38 and GP40 and some early SD40 and SD45 units.
This is what I call the EMD TYPE 3 coupler pocket. It is seen on GP/SD38/ 38-2, GP/SD40-2, SD45 and modern
motive power.
Here is a view of the TYPE 3 pocket I had
made. It is cast in resin.
