GMTX GP38 UNIT 2679
Usually I do not customer requests to build specific models. On a rare occasion I will if I like
what the prototype looks like. That was the case with this model.

My new format will be just to show finished models. There are enough full articles on my site
to show the process and methodologies of  how I build a model. I will however put up special
modeling techniques on a separate page if I think it is something that others might be
interested in. This is not to say I will not be doing other full articles in the future, but mostly I
just want to build models now.

If anyone has specific questions, please feel free to ask and I will be more than happy to
answer.

This model started out life as a standard Atlas GP38. I swapped the DB hatch out for a retro
PAF box hatch. Basic detailing was done as well as having to make a few custom details
such as the ditch light brackets for the front and rear, MU hose retainers on the rear pilot.
The only decals that were not custom made are the small warning labels.

This model is shown in clean paint. The prototype photos showed this unit in very clean
condition. I guess not all locomotives live their life in dirt and grime. I do not have permission
to post the prototype photos, but they can be seen at locoPhotos.com.

The DB grills are a project I recently worked on with Keith at Plano Model Products. We hope
it will be an available product soon. If you look closely you can see I built a resistor grid
detail part to sit behind the grills as well.
I had this DB grill idea for almost 10 years and I want to thank Keith for taking on this project. I finally get to see
it come to fruition! Thanks Keith.
